American Idol Season 8 announced the first three of 12 finalists last night and one of them is as far as I can tell, the first energy industry contestant to make it this far. Michael Sarver from Jasper, TX, a roughneck on an oil rig, sang to Gavin McGraw’s "I Don’t Wanna Be" on Tuesday night and was voted through by the public (thanks, perhaps, to some, er, rigging, by Simon Cowell to get America to vote for Sarver). I still need to dig further as to which specific energy enterprise owns the oil rig Sarver works on. Maybe you know and would like to share.
